Çakabey Observatory
The Çakabey Schools Observatory is one of the 10 largest observatories in Turkey and started operations on April 11, 2005. It is one of the main objectives of the Çakabey program that Çakabey students develop a natural interest in science and they gain research skills starting from pre-school. The Observatory is a valuable tool in achieving this goal.
Observatory studies are carried out under the direction of the Science and Creative Program Coordinator & Senior Astronomer, Oğuzhan Köse.
From pre-school to the end of high school, projects are carried out in the field of solar and night observations and space sciences.
Telescope
The Meade LX200 is a 12 inch (about 30cm.) GPS satellite-controlled and computer-equipped reflecting telescope. Our telescope, which can make both optical and CCD observations, has extremely favourable observation conditions away from light pollution on our campus in Sasalı which is not far from the bird sanctuary. Solar observations are made in the daytime at Çakabey Observatory with its built-in solar filter. Sunspot observations are made thanks to its structure that blocks 99.999% of the sun's rays.
Traditional Astronomy Nights
In our Astronomy Night Event, which we organize every year, night observations are made with activities such as presentations with academics, rocket launch workshops, information tents, and space globe journeys. (The organization is open only to Cakabey students)
The Çakabey Observatory is a member of the NASA Museum Alliance.
The Çakabey Observatory was accepted as a member of the NASA Museum Alliance in August 2018. Nasa's education group has run the NASA Museum Alliance since 2002. NASA is committed to sharing resources with museum alliance organizations and assisting their professional development. Members accepted from all over the world include science museums, planetariums, and observatories. Organizations whose applications are evaluated successfully are accepted into this privileged membership.
